The Post-Cold War Engineering Slump

March 26, 2006—Employment of scientists and engineers within the aerospace industry has dropped by “more than a factor of two” since the end of the Cold War, states a new Defense Science Board report titled “Future Strategic Strike Skills.” And, DSB notes that of those S&E employees, fewer than  two percent of what the report terms “leading innovators” head to the defense industry or DOD for jobs.
