Aug. 11, 2006—The Air Force’s Class A aircraft mishap record into the 11th month of Fiscal 2006 shows a marked drop from last year—and in comparison to the other services—yet the service continues a high operations tempo. This record should go a long way toward meeting the new mishap reduction goal set by Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld in June. He wants the services to reduce their overall number of accidents by 75 percent over the next two years. The previous goal was 50 percent from 2003 to 2005.
