​Committee assignments were announced for the 115th Congress Tuesday, and two new Republicans and two new Democrats will be joining the Senate Armed Services Committee. Overall, the Republicans will retain 14 spots on the committee, the same number as in the 114th Congress, while Democrats gained one spot and will have a total of 13 SASC members, according to Politico. The new Republican members are Ben Sasse of Nebraska and David Perdue of Georgia; Elizabeth Warren of Massachusetts and Gary Peters of Michigan are joining from the Democratic side of the aisle, according to the Washington Examiner. During the election, Sasse was a notable Republican voice in opposition to President-elect Donald Trump.
