Iraqi police involved in the approach to Mosul have been accused of torture and extrajudicial killings, an accusation the Pentagon is expecting Iraqi officials to investigate. On Nov. 10, Amnesty International released a report saying fighters in Iraqi Federal Police uniforms in late October tortured and executed up to six people in late October, reportedly due to suspicions they were affiliated with ISIS. Pentagon spokesman Peter Cook, in a Thursday briefing, said the Defense Department is aware of the reports and they “cause us concern.” “Any reports like this should be completely investigated,” Cook said. The killings reportedly happen in villages in the al-Shura and al-Qayyara sub-districts of the Ninewa province, according to the report.
