McConnell AFB, Kan., explosive ordnance disposal technicians recently helped local agencies dispose of a World War I-area explosive. The Marion County Sheriff’s Department on Aug. 8 received the century-old artillery projectile and needed help to dispose of it, according to a McConnell news release. Two EOD specialists responded, were able to X-ray it and determine it was safe to handle. They then took the device away to a remote disposal location and destroyed it. The response was the second time in two weeks McConnell EOD specialists responded to the county, the release states.
