A US airstrike killed ISIS’ leader in Afghanistan, the Pentagon announced Friday. Hafiz Sayed Khan, the Islamic State-Khorasan Province emir who “was known to directly participate in attacks against US and coalition forces,” died July 26, according to a Pentagon release. The Pentagon asserted Khan’s death affects ISIS' Khorasan branch’s recruiting efforts and will disrupt the group’s operations in Afghanistan. (See also: Hitting ISIS in Afghanistan.)
