The members of Team CyberSloths from Grissom High School in Huntsville, Ala., are the national champions in the Open Division of AFA’s CyberPatriot VII national youth cyber defense competition. The CyberSloths triumphed in the national finals held last week in National Harbor, Md. Team Marine Raiders of Montachusett Regional Technical School in Fitchburg, Mass., won the All-Service Division, while Team 1 of Nysmith School for the Gifted in Herndon, Va., took the Middle School Division. CyberPatriot officials announced the winners during the awards banquet on March 14. “Congratulations to all the winners,” said David Dietsch, AFA’s vice chairman of the board for field operations. CyberPatriot VII, the seventh season of the competition, began in October 2014 with more than 2,100 teams from across the United States, Canada, and Defense Department dependent schools in Europe and the Pacific. Twenty-eight of those teams advanced to National Harbor for the national finals, which kicked off on March 11. The students competed for scholarships and other recognition.
