The 342nd Training Squadron, Det. 3 was inactivated during a July 31 ceremony at Hurlburt Field, Fla., and the tactical air control party schoolhouse was moved to JBSA Lackland, Texas. “For the past 36 years, the TACP school has stood at Hurlburt Field,” said SMSgt. Frank Ivey, schoolhouse superintendent. “A new chapter begins for the TACP career field as the school moves to a new home.” The Air Force Secretary decided to move the school in an effort to consolidate and enhance Special Forces training. The move also saves money on permanent change of station costs, according to a July 31 Hurlburt release. “When we get to Lackland, the first thing we’re going to do is create a battlefield airman group,” said Maj. Timothy Hahn, 342nd Training Squadron, Det. 3 commander. “So, at this point, we’re going to create a better structured environment for the TACPs, pararescue jumpers, and combat controllers to work together in their own autonomous location within Air Education and Training Command."
