CMSgt. John Evalle, former command chief for the 60th Air Mobility Wing at Travis AFB, Calif., has been named veterans' liaison for Rep. John Garamendi (D-Calif.). Garamendi said in a statement that his office's efforts to secure earned benefits for veterans "created a problem that's good to have: Word has spread that we are effective and veterans in the 3rd district are coming to us in droves for help." Garamendi said Evalle's experience at Travis and his understanding of "the needs of service members and the Air Force" make him "the perfect man for the job." Evalle—who joined the Air Force in 1984 and has served in Afghanistan, Saudi Arabia (during Desert Shield/Desert Storm), South Korea, Guam, Italy, and Qatar—said, "I've witnessed first-hand the toll of war, and I know good service members who never made it home in one piece, mentally or physically. There are a lot of veterans suffering out there, and I appreciate Congressman Garamendi's leadership in ensuring that they won't be forgotten in the 3rd District." Evalle retired from the Air Force on Aug. 15, an Air Force spokesman told Air Force Magazine.
