The second Fisher House located at Travis AFB, Calif., accepted its first overnight guests just days after its official opening, announced base officials. The two-story, 13,000-square-foot Fisher House II features 16 fully furnished bedroom suites, each with a private bathroom, along with a communal dining area, laundry facilities, and living and family rooms. "When you enter this second Fisher House, you'll be able to see the selfless support and service to our uniformed military and veterans," said Col. Corey Martin, Travis’ 60th Air Mobility Wing commander. Fisher II is twice the size of Fisher I, which opened in 1994 and will remain in operation. Both facilities will provide a place for families of military personnel or veterans who are convalescing from injuries at Travis’ David Grant Air Force Medical Center or undergoing treatment at the Veterans Affairs Department’s Fairfield Outpatient Clinic to stay at no cost so they can be near their loved ones. Fisher House II opened on May 30. (Travis report by Jim Spellman)
