Robins AFB, Ga., will lease acreage to New Generation Power, under the Georgia Power 2013 advanced solar initiative, to house the company's 10-megawatt solar power facility on the base, officials announced this week. Over the next 20 years, cash from the lease agreement will support renewable energy or energy conservation initiatives "to reduce the base's energy consumption and improve future viability," said James Willingham, 78th Civil Engineer Group deputy director, who added it also will "enhance the long-term commitment of the base in supporting the federal and state renewable energy goals." Willingham said the project enhances the community's efforts to add to the technology base of the region, and that funding from the agreement will help improve cost-effectiveness on base. "This is truly a win-win for everyone involved. The project uses underutilized acreage on the installation to further both state and federal renewable energy goals while bringing additional funding [to] Robins," said James Willingham, 78th Civil Engineer Group deputy director, in a statement.
