Mexican Defense Chief Visits Peterson's MAFFS Unit: Gen. Guillermo Galvan Galvan, Mexico's secretary of national defense, last month toured Air Force Reserve Command's 302nd Airlift Wing at Peterson AFB, Colo., to check out first-hand the unit's aerial firefighting operations. The wing flies Modular Airborne Firefighting System-equipped C-130s. Back in April 2011, more than 30 airmen and two C-130s from the unit helped suppress a 245,000-acre wildfire in northern Mexico, according to Peterson's Oct. 31 release. The Oct. 19 visit was expected to be Galvan's last to Peterson before he steps down from his position on Dec. 1, states the release. He also met with Army Gen. Charles Jacoby, US Northern Command boss, during the visit. (Peterson report by TSgt. Thomas J. Doscher)
