NASA issued illustrations of future civil aircraft concepts that could be in use circa 2025, Jan. 13, 2011. The agency's aeronautics sector has Boeing, Lockheed Martin, and Northrop Grumman under contract to come up with subsonic designs that offer less noise, cleaner exhaust, and lower fuel consumption, along with a range of approximately 7,000 miles. Lockheed's (m) and Northrop's (r) models seem adaptable to such roles as well.
