Training to the Mission: Part of improving Air Force Global Strike Command operations is building more rigorous training regimes, said Lt. Gen. James Kowalski, AFGSC boss. To that end, the command has assembled several new programs to prepare airmen better for the global strike mission. For example, AFGSC has assembled a training unit to instruct nuclear intelligence professionals on the specifics of global strike intelligence work, he said in remarks at AFA's Air Warfare Symposium in Orlando, Fla., last week. The command now also conducts a convoy security training course at Camp Guernsey in Wyoming, and is pulling together resources to create a single nuclear response force for any nuclear incident occurring in the United States, Kowalski said. A full-scale national exercise testing this response force's capability is planned for May of 2012.
