The Pentagon's forthcoming Fiscal 2012 budget proposal will represent a "concrete manifestation" of the recently renewed US space priorities outlined in the new National Security Space Strategy, Deputy Defense Secretary Bill Lynn told reporters during a Pentagon briefing, Feb. 4, 2011. Specifically, the Air Force has added more money to the Evolved Expendable Launch Vehicle program in the hopes of securing a more stable buy and preserving the rocket industrial base, he said. Here a United Launch Alliance Delta IV Heavy rocket, one of the EELV models, sits on the launch pad prior to its first-ever West Coast launch, which occurred at Vandenberg AFB, Calif., on Jan. 20, 2011.
