Northrop Grumman's X-47B naval unmanned combat demonstrator aircraft flew for the first time, completing a 29-minute mission at Edwards AFB, Calif., on Feb. 4, 2011. The X-47B climbed to an altitude of 5,000 feet and flew several racetrack-type patterns before safely landing, according to Northrop officials. The aircraft, shown here during the inaugural flight, will remain at Edwards for flight-envelope expansion before transitioning to NAS Patuxent River, Md., later in 2011.
