Aloha Mr. Bones: An F-86E Sabre on static display at JB Pearl Harbor-Hickam, Hawaii, now stands in honor of retired Lt. Gen. Winton Marshall, Korean War ace and former Pacific Air Forces vice commander. "It is a tremendous pleasure for us to honor the courage, professionalism, airmanship, and the achievements of Lt. Gen. 'Bones' Marshall by dedicating this F-86E Sabre jet to him," said Gen. Gary North, PACAF commander, during the Dec. 8 dedication ceremony of Mr. Bones V, the freshly repainted Sabre. As commander of the 335th Fighter Squadron, Marshall deployed to Korea in May 1951, scoring six and a half confirmed kills in less than one year, becoming the United States' fifth jet ace of that conflict. "It's airmen like him who made our Air Force the best in the world," emphasized North. Marshall also served as chief of staff of Allied Air Forces Southern Europe among his assignments over his 35-year military career. (Hickam report by 1st Lt. Robert Howard)
