Ohio Air National Guardsmen with the 179th Airlift Wing in Mansfield, along with National Guard soldiers from Georgia and Oklahoma, participated in a little piece of Air Force history when they recently embarked on the first-ever overseas deployment of the Air Guard's new C-27J transports, announced wing officials, Aug. 2, 2011. The team will provide direct support to Army ground troops in Afghanistan over the next nine months via airlifts and airdrops. Here, one of the C-27s leaves Mansfield Lahm Airport on this deployment.
