Technicians encapsulated GEO-1, the first Space Based Infrared System geosynchronous satellite, in its launch fairing on April 20, 2011, in preparation for its upcoming launch into space, announced prime contractor Lockheed Martin, April 26, 2011. The launch of the sophisticated missile warning satellite is planned for May 6, 2011, from Cape Canaveral AFS, Fla. A United Launch Alliance Atlas V rocket will carry GEO-1 into orbit.
