The 4th Space Operations Squadron at Schriever AFB, Colo., decommissioned the Satellite Mission Control Subsystem and Air Force Command Post Terminal during a ceremony, April 11, 2011. Airmen had used these command and control elements to operate the nation's Milstar military communications satellites since 1995. Replacing them is the Advanced Satellite Mission Control Subsystem, which will control both legacy Milstar spacecraft and the next-generation Advanced Extremely High Frequency communications satellites. Here, SrA. Jon Mondragon of the 4th SOPS runs a final system check prior to powering down SMCS, April 18, 2011.
