Air Force Chief of Staff Gen. Norton Schwartz became an honorary member of the Tuskegee Airmen of World War II fame during a ceremony in the Pentagon, Nov. 9, 2010. Schwartz is the third USAF Chief of Staff to be an honorary member, along with Gen. Merrill McPeak and Gen. Ronald Fogleman. Here, Byron Morris (r), Tuskegee Airmen East Coast Chapter president, helps Schwartz slip on his new Tuskegee Airmen red jacket, as retired Brig. Gen. Leon Johnson, Tuskegee Airmen Inc., president, looks on. The Tuskegee Airmen were black airmen who flew fighter escorts during World War II and helped to break down racial barriers in the US military.
