In a last press conference May 13, 2010, as head of NORAD and US Northern Command, headquartered at Peterson AFB, Colo., Air Force Gen. Gene Renuart admitted he does have concerns about aging radars and air defense fighters that support the homeland defense mission. However, he said there are fighter modernization plans in place that NORAD will watch and temporary fixes to sustain the ground-based radar system. Vice Adm. James Winnefeld replaces Renuart on May 19, 2010.
