Sen. Sam Brownback (R-Kan.) and Rep. Todd Tiahrt (R-Kan.) announced that they are introducing legislation called the Fair Defense Competition Act that would force the Defense Department to factor World Trade Organization decisions in its military acquisitions, May 13, 2010. The measure, they said, aims to level the playing field after the WTO ruled in March 2010 that EADS has received improper aircraft subsidies, giving it an unfair advantage over Boeing in the Air Force's KC-X tanker recapitalization contest. Here, a KC-135 tanker sits on the flight line at Aviano AB, Italy. KC-X will supplant the KC-135.
