Some 50 airmen of the Arkansas Air National Guard's 188th Fighter Wing in early January 2010 deployed to Afghanistan for the unit's first deployment as an A-10 force since switching from the F-16 in 2007. The 188th FW will work with an A-10C force from the Maryland ANG's 175th Wing, sending another 250 airmen to Kandahar Airfield in March 2010 to complete the last two months of a shared four-month rotation. Here, A-10Cs from the 188th FW and 175th Wing taxi down the runway at Kandahar Jan. 13, 2010.
