The Air Force issued a notice of intent on Dec. 30, 2009, that it will host a series of public scoping meetings starting in mid-January 2010 to discuss the potential beddown of combat-ready F-35 strike fighter units at six candidate bases in the continental US. These meetings, which allow residents of the communities near the prospective beddown locations to voice their thoughts and concerns, are part of the environmental impact analyses required by US law before the Air Force may render any final basing decisions, which are anticipated in early 2011.
