The Air Force anticipates receiving the first production-version KC-X tanker aircraft in Fiscal 2015 and having enough of them in place in Fiscal 2017 to evaluate whether it's time to declare the first KC-X unit combat-ready, an Air Force spokeswoman told the Daily Report, Feb. 25, 2010. This forecast is based on the program laid out in the KC-X request for proposal issued on Feb. 24, 2010. The Air Force wants to field a force of 179 new tankers to replace the oldest of its Eisenhower-era KC-135 tankers. Here, KC-135s sit on the ramp while snow is removed from the runway at Selfridge ANGB, Mich., Feb. 10, 2010.
