Despite the daily intangible contributions of National Guardsmen and Reservists to the US military, there is still the danger that tough economic times and scarce resources may drive some elements within the Defense Department toward funding the Reserve Component as if it were a second-tier fighting force, warned Lt. Gen. Bud Wyatt, Air National Guard director, during a panel appearance at the Reserve Officers Association's national convention in Washington, D.C., Feb. 9, 2010. Such "old paradigm" thinking is detrimental and "will no longer serve the best interests of this country," he said. Here, Wyatt speaks at a defense conference in Washington, D.C., Oct. 6, 2009.
