The Air Force Research Lab's high-altitude balloon program still plays an important role in evaluating various scientific experiments in an effective and affordable manner, program officials announced, Nov. 14, 2010. In the past two years, they have conducted more than 10 missions from municipal airports in Holbrook, Ariz., and Belen and Santa Rosa, N.M. In late September 2010, for example, they staged two test flights of FAA's Automatic Dependent Surveillance-Broadcast payload. Here, program officials prepare a helium balloon for an experiment.
