Air Combat Command officials on April 19, 2010, witnessed rollout of a new rescue tanker at Lockheed Martin's Marietta, Ga., facility. The HC-130J, which still must complete flight test before going to ACC later in 2010, is based on the Marine Corps KC-130J baseline version and includes an enhanced cargo handling system, a boom refueling receptacle, an electro-optical/infrared sensor, and a combat systems operator station on the flight deck. ACC expects to achieve initial operational capability with the rescue J model in 2012.
Memorial Day is a time to remember all those who died fighting for their country, just like A1C William Pitsenbarger, an Air Force pararescueman who took part in more than 250 rescue missions before he was killed at the age of 21. His selflessness and valor in the Vietnam War earned him an Air Force Cross and, eventually, a Medal of Honor.
