Boeing officials issued a statement April 1, 2010, saying they "do not see a legitimate reason" for EADS, parent company of aircraft maker Airbus, to seek a deadline extension for submitting KC-X tanker bids. "We believe an extension that favors any individual competitor does not further the goal of ensuring fair competition," they stated, one day after the Pentagon indicated its readiness to extend the current May 10, 2010 proposal deadline by 60 days to July 9, 2010, if EADS formally indicates its intent to bid. Here a KC-135, the Eisenhower-era tanker design that KC-X is meant to supplant, takes off from Andersen AFB, Guam, Aug. 25, 2009.
