President Obama said during a joint press conference March 30, 2010, in the White House with French President Nicholas Sarkozy that he has assured the French head of state that the Air Force's KC-X tanker recapitalization effort will be a "free and fair" process. Sarkozy, in whose country European aircraft maker Airbus is headquartered, said he has "trust" in Obama and accepts those assurances. Their words came as Airbus' parent EADS is still considering offering a bid for KC-X, the tanker to replace Eisenhower-era KC-135s.
