The Governors of Alabama, Louisiana, and Mississippi joined with a senior Florida Congressional delegation on Oct. 26, 2009, to announce the launch of The Aerospace Alliance, a private-public partnership meant to establish the Gulf Coast and surrounding region as a world-class aerospace corridor. They said new organization’s first priority is to ensure that the Air Force’s new KC-X tanker is built in their region. Here, a Royal Australian Air Force tanker that is based on the Airbus A330 airliner upon which Northrop Grumman’s tanker offering to the US Air Force is also based. If Northrop prevails against Boeing, it would assemble its tanker in Mobile, Ala.
