The Air Force has begun to test its concept of employment for the C-27J transport to validate the aircraft’s ability to provide direct intratheater airlift support to the Army when it is introduced operationally in fall 2010, Air Mobility Command announced Oct. 26, 2009. For this testing, which is occurring in Iraq, the Air Force is using C-130s to stand in for the smaller C-27Js, since the only two C-27Js in the inventory are still involved in operational testing.
