B-2 Unit Passes Inspection: Air Combat Command inspectors gave the 509th Bomb Wing at Whiteman AFB, Mo., an “excellent” rating after a 12-day nuclear operational readiness inspection that concluded Oct. 23. The rating means that the wing, USAF’s sole B-2 bomber unit, remains certified to perform its strategic nuclear deterrent mission. "Your performance during the inspection validated that we are responsible stewards of a critical strategic capability and a zero-defect mission,” said Brig. Gen. Robert Wheeler, 509th BW commander. ACC’s inspectors recognized 30 teams and 48 individuals as superior performers. "I want to offer my heart-felt thanks and congratulations on the excellent inspection that was recently completed," added Gen. William Fraser, Air Combat Command boss. Whiteman’s good news comes on the heels of the Air Force relieving two nuclear wing commanders at Minot AFB, N.D., from their positions due to their wings’ non-optimal performance.
