Lawmakers are increasingly voicing their frustrations over the lack of detail in the 2010 defense budget proposal and absence of required out-year planning. At the May 20, 2009, House Armed Services Air and Land Subcommittee hearing, chairmen Neil Abercrombie (D-Hawaii) paid particular attention to the F-35 Lightning II Joint Strike Fighter plan, which is centermost in the Pentagon’s tactical fighter modernization scheme, noting that the Pentagon would purchase 273 F-35s before it completes flight testing.
