For the fourth consecutive year, Congress is fighting the Pentagon’s plan to cease development of the General Electric-Rolls Royce F-136, the engine that would compete against Pratt& Whitney’s F135 to power future F-35 stealth fighters. The House Armed Services Committee’s airland panel opted to provide $603 million for the F-136 in Fiscal 2010, June 12, 2009. The full committee will vote on the matter later in June. Here, AA-1, the first F-35A test aircraft, flies over Eglin AFB, Fla., April 23, 2009.
