Top: This plaque was unveiled during a Jan. 2, 2009, dedication ceremony of the new Enlisted Heroes Walk, adjacent to the parade field at Lackland AFB, Tex. Bottom: A stone bearing the etched name of A1C John Levitow rests as one of the 1,024 paving the new walk, upon which all trainees will walk as part of their graduation to airmen. Currently 164 of the stones are etched with the names of enlisted airmen who have received the Medal of Honor, Air Force Cross, or Silver Star for their service during conflict. Levitow, an AC-47 gunship loadmaster and lowest-ranking airman ever to receive the Medal of Honor, exhibited exceptional heroism during the Vietnam War.
