The Air Force airdropped 3.3 million pounds of supplies into Afghanistan in July 2009, the highest monthly total since US military operations began in Afghanistan in late 2001. The 772nd Expeditionary Airlift Squadron, a C-130J unit operating from Kandahar Air Field, Afghanistan, alone delivered more than 276,000 pounds of that total. Here, TSgt. Wayne Witter, a C-130J loadmaster assigned to the 772nd EAS, prepares for a night airdrop to deliver JP-8 fuel to troops in southwestern Afghanistan July 17, 2009.
