According to Rep. Todd Tiahrt (R-Kan.), the Pentagon plans to release a new request for proposals to restart the KC-135 tanker replacement program just after Labor Day. An Aug. 12, 2009, blog report by the Wichita Eagle also quoted Tiahrt as saying he remains committed to an American tanker. Here, an F-15E Strike Eagle aircraft flies away from a KC-135 tanker after refueling over Afghanistan Aug. 2, 2009. The tanker is deployed from the Mississippi Air National Guard's 186th Air Refueling Wing.
