The city commission of Valparaiso, Fla., has opted to not endorse the recommendations emerging from the new Pentagon-sponsored joint land use study for nearby Eglin Air Force Base, the Northwest Florida Daily News reported Aug. 12, 2009. The study is meant to harmonize future community growth and development with Eglin’s training and operational missions. However, Valparaiso remains locked in a legal battle with the Air Force over the service’s decision to base F-35s at Eglin for training and the noise associated with those aircraft. Here, an F-35 test aircraft flies over the Grand Canyon.
