The Air Force announced on Aug. 12, 2009, that Lackland AFB, Tex., will be the permanent headquarters location for 24th Air Force, the new organization that will oversee the service’s cyber operations. Lackland was chosen as the preferred headquarters location in May 2009, but the service could not finalize its decision until it had completed the analysis required by law of the environmental impact of establishing the numbered Air Force there.
