Early Weather Service Leader Dies: Retired Lt. Gen. William O. Senter, 99, died April 19 in Palm City, Fla. The Texas native graduated from the US Military Academy at West Point in 1933, achieved his pilot wings in 1934 and served initially with a bomb squadron. After completing a course in meteorology, he entered the weather field, ultimately serving as deputy chief and later chief of the Air Weather Service. In 1953, he became commander of the Oklahoma City Air Materiel Area and from there to Air Material Command and assignments at the Pentagon. Senter retired from the Air Force in June 1966, after 33 years of service. (Obituary via Abilene Reporter News)
