The Total Force team at Elmendorf AFB, Alaska, has declared initial operational capability with the F-22 and C-17. Here, Col. Eric Overturf, commander of Air Force Reserve Command's 477th Fighter Group at Elmendorf, thanks his active duty crew chief during a Weapons Systems Evaluation Program at Tyndall AFB, Fla. Reserve pilots from the 302nd Fighter Squadron and Reserve maintainers from the 477th Maintenance Squadron teamed up with the active 3rd Wing at Elmendorf to create a Total Force team for the recent WSEP, which allows airmen to experience live air-to-air weapons before going into combat. The new C-17 airlift force of the Alaska Air National Guard's 249th Airlift Squadron and active 517th AS transported their fellow Elmendorf team members to Florida.
