The Office of the Secretary of Defense announced Nov. 12, 2008, that it has authorized the Air Force to spend up to $50 million to procure materials and long-lead-time components for four additional F-22s. This is the first step to keep the F-22 production line flowing until President-elect Obama’s Administration decides in early 2009 whether to keep buying more F-22s or to shutter the line.
