Unique in the Space Community: The Air Force now has its first Air Force Reserve space wing in place with the activation of the 310th Space Wing March 7 at Schriever AFB. Colo. “This activation is an indication of our continued growth in the Air Force space missions, and it validates the contribution of the Air Force Reserve in the fight against terror,” said Col. Jeff Ansted, wing commander. The unit, previously known as the 310th Space Group, currently has about 600 reservists in 16 subordinate units at Schriever, Buckley, and Peterson AFBs, Colo., and Vandenberg AFB, Calif., that support Air Force Space Command, Air Combat Command, Air Force Cyber Command, and the Department of Commerce. CMSgt. Darin Miley, the wing’s superintendent, said officials expect the wing to grow to more than 800 personnel. (Schriever report by Ed White)
