Draft OK for Civilian Service: Seventy-three percent of US adults think young people should voluntarily serve their country in some way, according to a new Harris Poll. Approximately four in 10 adults support a draft of young people, with the idea that the young people choose military or non-military civilian service. One in four supports a military draft, and less are in favor of a non-military service draft. “What is significant about these results is the agreement across demographic groups and ideological lines,” said Chris Moessner, research director in the Youth and Education Research Practice at Harris Interactive. He added, “Republicans, Democrats, and Independents all support higher funding for non-military civilian service opportunities.”
