Flying in to McMurdo: The latest Operation Deep Freeze is ongoing with a C-17 from McChord AFB, Wash., flying passengers and cargo to within about 15 miles of McMurdo Station, Antarctica this week, reports Air Force photojournalist TSgt. Shane Cuomo. This part of the operation is called Winter Fly-in and delivers personnel who construct a sea ice runway closer to the station. The McChord C-17 force, some 31 airmen, on this part of the operation comprised Air Force Reserve Command airmen, but active duty airmen from McChord and New York Air National Guard LC-130 crews also support Deep Freeze.
