Texas Is in the Game: Apparently folks in San Antonio are vying for the rights to USAF's new Cyber Command along with groups in California, Louisiana, and Nebraska. Two of the known contenders are putting up money already, buying suitable property near Barksdale AFB, La., and Offutt AFB, Neb. California's effort is still in the "what if" stage, but leaders of the Beale [Air Force Base] Military Liaison Group believe California should get behind the effort. "It's computers; it's green; it's everything California says they want," Ron Bartoli, with the Beale group, told The Union. Reporter Dave Moller also discovered that there is interest in San Antonio, where Lackland Air Force Base already hosts one element of the future command—the 67th Network Warfare Wing. Louisiana, of course, may have a leg up on all the others since Barksdale currently hosts 8th Air Force, the outfit tasked to set up Cyber Command.
