One for Colorado and Five Left Over: The Senate version of the 2007 defense authorization bill contains an amendment sponsored by Sen. Wayne Allard (R-Colo.) that would create at least six regional military family assistance sites—one of which DOD recommends be located in Colorado. Three of the six sites must be in areas devoid of a large military presence. A statement from Allard says the legislation also would require DOD to use the program to provide financial assistance for military families, create mobile support services, and coordinate family assistance programs among various government and non-profit agencies, among other military family oriented actions. The program would end in three years.
