Working Afghanistan Is Not Space Launch Duty: It doesn’t matter if they protect a missile field or launch center, Security Forces airmen are in short supply, so Air Force Space Command  SF airmen are taking their turns in Southwest Asia. Serving in Afghanistan now are 18 airmen of the 30th Security Forces Squadron, Vandenberg AFB, Calif. They had to get some specialized training from the Army at Ft. Lewis, Wash., before deploying to SWA, where they are conducting detainee operations, including the operation of the Bagram Air Base Theater Internment Facility, convoy operations, and detainee fly-away missions, says Capt. Tim Simmons, the squadron’s guard force commander.
